The most popular example of a home remedy would be 'chicken soup', which has been used for many years as a means to treat common respiratory infections such as the common cold or the flu. As strange as some remedies sound, there have been numerous scientific studies which have proved the effectiveness of home remedies. One such remedy involved drinking willow bark tea to cure headaches and fevers, it was later discovered that the willow bark contained a form of acetylsalicylic acid - now more commonly known as aspirin.

In general, remedies are classed as forms of treatment that utilise either spices, vegetables or other common ingredients to cure some kind of disease of ailment. Most remdies are known to be old folk tales passed down through generations, before conventional medicinal therapies were implemented.
